Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (SBA) is a campaign in India that aims to clean up the streets, roads, and infrastructure of India's cities, smaller towns, and rural areas. We must maintain cleanliness in our homes, colleges, and public places to ensure good health. A clean and tidy environment not only looks good but also has a positive impact on our mental well-being. It creates a welcoming atmosphere and makes us feel more relaxed. Gopalan College of Engineering and Management (GCEM) students from the Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering departments, part of the National Service Scheme (NSS), conducted Swachh Bharat on 17-07-2023 in the surroundings of the college campus (Hoodi Village). The event was organized and coordinated under the guidance of Dr.Basavaraj.C, Principal of GCEM, Dr. Natarajan, HOD (ME), Shreyas HC, Assistant Professor of the Civil Department, D. Sreenivasa Reddy, NSS Coordinator, GCEM, and all the staff of the Civil and Mechanical Engineering Departments. The event started at 2:30 PM at Gopalan Engineering College and Management (GCEM), Bangalore, with a speech by the Principal of GCEM. He spoke a few words about the importance of cleanliness in daily life. Our Principal initiated the program by cleaning the entrance of the college. The NSS volunteers from the Civil and Mechanical Engineering departments, along with the staff, actively participated in creating awareness among the public, informing them about the importance of cleanliness. The students also took the initiative to clean the surroundings of the vicinity. The volunteers wore gloves and collected all the litter in big bags for disposal. Nearly 20 NSS Volunteers, twenty staff members, and ten non-teaching staff from the Civil and Mechanical Engineering departments participated in the program. After working for two to three hours, we all assembled in the college premises. The volunteers were instructed to clean their hands with soap at the end, and refreshments were distributed to them. In the end, we all took an oath to keep our homes, locality, and city clean. It was a unique experience for all of us. We were proud to be part of this great drive that could have transformed the face of our country forever. We thank the Management, Staff, and Students for their valuable support in making the NSS activity a grand success.
