A Workshop on “OPEN VSP”

Department of Aeronautical Engineering in association with Gopalan Research Innovation and Training Centre (GRIT) has organized a workshop on "OPEN VSP". on 27th of January, 2024 for Aeronautical students.

Dr. Ramesh Gopalan, Professor and Dean of Research, presented the keynote address. The hands-on session was led by Mr. Gowtham Y V, Mr. Shekar and Ms. Kiran Kumari Bhatt, III Year Aeronautical Students. The workshop on Open VSP, also known as Open Vehicle Sketch Pad, is an open-source parametric aircraft geometry tool originally developed by NASA was aimed to provide the knowledge on geometry tools for designing aircraft.

The workshop covered a comprehensive range of topics, including an introduction to Open VSP, its applications in vehicle design, and hands-on sessions for practical application. The facilitators provided step-by-step guidance on navigating the software, creating 3D models, and conducting basic analyses. Additionally, participants were introduced to advanced features, enhancing their proficiency in utilizing Open VSP for complex design scenarios. The interactive nature of the workshop encouraged active participation among students, allowing students to clarify doubts, share insights, and collaborate on practical exercises. The engagement levels remained high throughout the workshop, indicating a keen interest in the subject matter. The Open VSP Workshop proved to be a valuable learning experience for students, fostering a deeper understanding of conceptual design in the aerospace and automotive industries.
