The Department of Aeronautical Engineering was established in the academic year 2019-20 as the fifth department of the college which is under VTU, Belagavi, Karnataka. The department is accorded approval by AICTE and DTE. The department offers under-graduate course in Aeronautical Engineering with an intake of 60 students. It is a four-year eight semester course. Faculty is a mix of young and experienced from reputed institutions.

The main aim is to impart quality education in Aeronautical Engineering and to create engineers of excellence with high level of competence. The focus is to provide a holistic campus education that would expose students to on campus training, under graduate research, industrial internship apart from the technologically equipped class rooms and modern laboratories.

The standard laboratories like wind tunnel facility, propulsion test facility, Aero structures, Avionics lab, flight experimentation lab is being established. This is done keeping in view the advancements for the students work on applied research problems. The emphasis is placed on group discussions, under graduate research and assignments. The department will adopt modern teaching methods that are more inclusive. Technologies like Webinars, virtual labs rooms, tele lectures from experts and tools like smart interactive screens, Quizzing gadgets are planned.

The department activities are being guided by the advisory committee whose members are eminent personalities from industries, government organizations, R&D Sectors. The new initiative of establishing Gopalan Research, Innovation and Training center, (GRIT) in the department with UAV centric inter disciplinary research provides a good opportunity for the under graduate students
