Industrial visit to Varahi Underground Power house

The Department of Aeronautical Engineering has organized the Industrial visit to Varahi Underground Power house, Hosangadi to 3rd year Aeronautical Engineering team on April 12, 2025.

This powerhouse is one of Karnataka’s major hydroelectric projects, with a total installed capacity of 400 MW. The power station operates through an underground structure, making it a unique feat of engineering. The Varahi project uses the water from the Varahi River, which is diverted through a tunnel to drive turbines that generate electricity. The facility plays a key role in supporting the state's energy grid, especially during peak demand periods.

Our students and faculty were able to gain hands-on knowledge about the complex systems involved in large-scale power generation, including the engineering challenges of maintaining a subterranean power plant, turbine design, and the integration of renewable energy solutions in modern engineering.

Huge thanks to Karnataka Power Corporation Limited for the warm welcome and for facilitating such a valuable learning opportunity. Moments like this bridge the gap between classroom theory and real-world application.
