2-day Workshop – Even semester; 2022

Topic: Silhouettes of the Earth

Adapting conscientious methods of architecture & construction in heavily contoured regions.

A 2 - day of hands-on workshop and lecture session was conducted addressing 6th and 4th-semester students of Bachelors of Architecture and Civil Engineering students to teach the technicality involved in the Terrain Architecture and edify the current need of contextually appropriate, environmentally sensitive design integration in hilly terrains.

The objective of the workshop was to, provide collective information to the students through the experts in the industry to expose the students to the on site limitations / practical exposure involving materials and construction techniques in the subject.

External Resource person: Ar. Mahesh Guruswamy, (Professional from Industry)

Student Participation: 6th & 4th-semester students – B.Arch & Students of Civil Engineering (GCEM)

Duration: 2 days – Certificate course.

Venue: Gopalan School of Architecture and Planning

Schedule: 22nd & 23rd April 2022

Student Fee: 150 INR

Number of registrations took place: 37 in Total

(6th Sem – 21 students; 4th sem – 5 students; Civil Engineering (GCEM) – 11 students)

  • Design considerations and Nuances involved in hill architecture
  • Inputs on environmentally Sensitive Design
  • Read Contours of Topo Maps
  • Understand and Analyse terminologies such as Ridge, valley, High point and Low point.
  • Basics of Slope Analysis
  • Introduction to Cut and Fill Methods.
  • Light on building construction methods and materials involved in Hill Architecture
  • The workshop objective was in preparing the student to handle a contoured site in terms of understanding the potentials and drawbacks of the site for a better Design with knowledge of construction techniques and materiality involved through expert lectures.
