As part of the Architectural Design VI studio, students embarked on a field visit to the renowned IIM Bangalore campus, designed by architect B.V. Doshi. This immersive case study provided students with a unique opportunity to explore and critically analyze one of the finest examples of campus planning in the country.

The visit allowed students to engage with the spatial and functional dynamics of the campus from its rhythmic courtyards and interlocking corridors to its nuanced circulation patterns that guide movement through built and open spaces. Walking through the stone-clad passages and shaded verandas, students observed how materiality, light, and scale interact to create an environment conducive to learning, reflection, and collaboration.

Beyond physical observation, the day was filled with sketching, documenting, and discussing the ways in which Doshi’s design philosophy integrates the built form with nature, fostering a sense of calm and intellectual stimulation. This experiential learning session enabled students to appreciate how architecture can support educational ideologies and human behaviour, offering a deeper understanding of context-responsive design. The visit served as a living classroom, inspiring future architects to think critically about the social, environmental, and cultural dimensions of space-making.
